First Provisions of Credit Card Reform Act Start

The first two provisions of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure (“CARD”) Act of 2009 went into effect Thursday, August 20, 2009.  The CARD Act is designed to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive practices by credit card companies.

Law Firm Indicted for Visa Fraud

According to the Associated Press, a federal indictment was unsealed last week that names a Salt Lake City law firm, three attorneys, and five other employees, alleging visa fraud and alien smuggling.  Allegedly the majority of 700 visa petitions (resulting in over 5,000 visas) filed by the Alcala Law Firm were fraudulent.
